5.8 Million Awarded to Build Affordable Housing in Glens Falls
Warren-Washington Association for Mental Health to Break Ground in the Summer
Governor Cuomo’s 5-year, $2.6 billion commitment to developing 6,000 units of supportive housing in New York State is having major impacts in the Glens Falls region. Warren-Washington Association for Mental Health (WWAMH), with locations in Glens Falls, has been awarded two grants under this initiative. The Homeless Housing and Assistance Program, a New York State agency providing capital grants and loans to obtain, build or rehabilitate housing for persons who are homeless and those persons unable to access safe housing without assistance, recently awarded WWAMH 5.8 million dollars. These funds will be used to develop 28 units of permanent, supportive apartments as well as transitional/emergency apartments for individuals who are homeless or unstably housed. When open, the operations of the new apartment building will be supported by a 3.4 million dollar grant from Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative that was awarded to WWAMH in October 2018.
The apartment building, which will break ground in the summer of 2019, will be built on Cooper Street in Glens Falls. It is estimated that the facility will open in the Fall of 2020.
